Baguio City, Philippines – The City government of Baguio is preparing the arrival of Covid-19 vaccines for their constituents, according to the Mayor Benjamin Magalong during his talk in the First Flag Raising Ceremony of the City this year.

Magalong said he already talked to a global company willing to provide the city 10,000 doses but has to undergo process first. “It is just a matter of going through the process and talking with a foundation that will help up us buy the vaccines,” said Magalong.

Magalong mentioned that as part of the preparation, freezers required for storage of the vaccines will be acquired.

“We are acquiring 3 types of freezers—one that can store vaccines with a temperature of -8 degrees Celsius, another freezer with a temperature of -20 to -40 degrees Celsius and the third one that can store -40 to -80 degrees Celsius. Hindi po natin kayang bumili lang ng isang klase lang na freezer. We will be acquiring not only one vaccine but several,” Magalong said.

A group of businessmen in the city has also agreed to provide 50 percent of their own vaccine purchase to the City LGU.

Who shall be vaccinated?

Magalong said the City shall prioritize frontliners, elderly, people with underlying conditions and workers directly exposed to the virus.

“Frontliners who are directly exposed would have to be prioritized. Second would be the elderly and those with underlying conditions and finally, people whose work directly exposes them to the virus particularly those working in the treasury and the public market must receive the vaccine as well,” the mayor said.

Magalong has also urged the public to observe all precautionary measures to make them safer while waiting for the arrival of the vaccines.

“Beginning this New Year, let us harness all the prospective opportunities to make us safer while awaiting the vaccine for our eventual protection. Let us not be complacent and forget about the huge sacrifices that we have made,” the mayor said.
