Balbalan, Kalinga – The Municipality of Balbalan is set to come alive once more in a vibrant display of color, culture, and community spirit as it celebrates the 18th Manchachatong Festival from March 23 to 25, 2026.

Derived from a local term meaning the arrival and gathering of people, Manchachatong is Balbalan’s annual festival—an enduring celebration of unity, heritage, and shared identity observed every March.

This year’s festivities will open on March 23 with a Thanksgiving Mass at 3:00 p.m., setting a solemn yet hopeful tone for the celebration. As dusk begins to fall, the Palanus Night will light up the Rural Health Grounds at 4:30 p.m., bringing together performances that echo the town’s rich past and cultural pride. Among the highlights are the presentation of Balbalan’s heritage, “Early Lives of Our Ancestry,” brought to life by high school students, and the graceful rhythms of the “Sayaw ng Pagkakaisa.”

On March 24, the streets will pulse with energy as dancers in vibrant costumes fill the town with movement and music during the Street Dance Competition and Showdown at the Balbalan Central School Grounds. The celebration continues with the opening of the Manchachatong Agri-Fair, where the products and craftsmanship of the iBalbalans take center stage. The afternoon will feature a dance competition at 1:00 p.m., while the evening will culminate in the crowning of the next Miss Balbalan, adding elegance and excitement to the festivities.

The final day, March 25, will showcase the unity and discipline of the youth through a schools’ parade and ground demonstration, as students march and perform in synchronized displays that reflect both pride and promise.

With this lineup of activities, Mayor Almar Malannag invites all iBalbalans and visitors alike to witness and experience the town’s vibrant spirit through the festival, which carries the theme: “Rooted in Heritage, Growing Towards Sustainable Progress.”
