La Trinidad, Benguet - Firefighters are often called during fires to save lives and properties from flames, but on September 6, 2025, the Bureau of Fire Protection—La Trinidad proved that their mission goes beyond battling blazes.

The said BFP office was notified by Barangay Captain Osborn Bisaya at around 10:32 a.m that day about a woman who was in labor and struggling to give birth inside her home in Little Kibungan Village, Puguis, La Trinidad.

The barangay captain was informed by the mother’s relatives and later reported the matter to the authorities.

Led by Fire Officer 2 Jelaine Agustin, the BFP-La Trinidad Emergency Medical Services team immediately proceeded to the scene and found the mother surrounded by blood and experiencing difficulty in delivering her child.

With no time to spare, Agustin and her team assisted in the delivery right inside the mother’s house, a first-time experience for the rescuers.

The baby was born successfully through their help, yet the condition was unstable. With that, they rushed both the mother and her baby to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

Agustin, according to the DWZT 540 AM Radyo - Totoo, described the event as emotional for them since they witnessed the struggles of both the mother and the baby.

The firefighter also admitted it was the very first childbirth emergency they had to respond to.

Showing that their service doesn't end at the scene, the BFP officer and her colleagues visited the mother and the baby at the hospital the next day, September 7, bringing them clothes and essentials.

Agustin confirmed that the two were discharged on September 7.
