Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – Four jiu-jitsu athletes from Cagayan brought pride to their hometown after winning gold medals at the Guam Marianas Pro Manila 2026 Qualifier held in Quezon City on April 25–26, 2026.

The athletes dominated the competition, completing a medal sweep in their respective divisions. Mary Ryan Ramirez, Miguel Lim Jr., and Jude Santos Jr. each secured gold medals, while Jude Santos III delivered a standout performance by capturing double gold after dominating both the Gi and No-Gi divisions.

The Guam Marianas Pro Manila 2026 is part of an international Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu series that serves as a qualifier for the prestigious Marianas Open Championship, one of the premier martial arts tournaments in the Pacific region.

The event not only showcases top jiu-jitsu talent but also fosters a supportive environment for youth and their families, promoting discipline, respect, and unity.

In an interview with Guru Press Cordillera, Mary Ryan Ramirez shared her journey in preparing for the competition, highlighting the discipline, sacrifices, and physical demands she endured leading up to the tournament.

“It was a lot of hard work and weight loss. I had to tone down the food I ate and follow a healthy diet. I trained every day and lifted weights for conditioning and strength… It was my first time competing against many opponents. I even rolled with boys who were older than me,” said Ramirez.

Ramirez also expressed how much the victory meant to her, emphasizing her pride in representing her hometown and inspiring other young athletes.

“This victory means a lot to me because I was able to bring home the gold for our city, Tuguegarao, and that’s something I’m really proud of. It also shows that even girls from far cities can compete, dominate, and succeed in martial arts, both on the national and international stage… I hope this inspires younger athletes, especially girls, to believe in themselves and chase their goals no matter where they come from,” she added.

Meanwhile, after securing double gold in the competition, Jude Santos III is set to compete again on May 13, 2026, against Jerome Gonzales, as he aims to extend his strong run of performances.
