Tabuk City, Kalinga – With the recent conversion of six various roads into national highways, agricultural productivity is expected to be enhanced in the Province of Kalinga.

The conversion is contained in Department Order No. 123, series of 2022 of the Department of Public Works and Highways signed by Acting Secretary Roger Mercado.

With the promulgation, the department would take the responsibility for the maintenance and improvement of said roads, meaning there shall be adequate funding to make the roads more conducive for transport.

Through the initiative of Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, the local roads including Abra-Kalinga-Apayao Road from Aciga, Pinukpuk-Tawang-Buaya-Mabaca, Balbalan Section; Cagaluan Bypass Road; Kalinga-Apayao Road from Catabbogan-Daga-Puguin Bypass Road; Tabuk-Banaue via Tanudan-Barlig Junction Se-et-Taloctoc-Mangali Road; Mt. Province-Isabela Road; and Apayao-Kalinga-Abra Road were converted.

According to Mangaoang, the improvement of the roads will not only bring about economic development but will enormously contribute to the peace and order drive of the government.

“It had been our sad experience that where areas are secluded and utterly lacking economic development, these areas become the lairs of lawless elements, especially the insurgents. Marijuana plantations abound in these secluded places. An improved road will bring about an increased volume of traffic, more settlements and the presence of law enforcers will necessarily displace all lawless elements,” the proponent explained.

Development of tourism, commerce, and industries in the province are likewise expected.
