Tabuk City, Kalinga – Nine remote schools in Kalinga Province are set to benefit from a ₱50-million classroom development allocation from the Department of Education (DepEd), as Governor James S. Edduba emphasized that the program prioritizes learners in far-flung communities who face the greatest challenges in accessing safe and adequate learning facilities.

The funding was initially endorsed by the provincial government to DepEd Secretary Juan Edgardo 'Sonny' Angara, requesting financing for the construction of new classroom buildings aimed at easing congestion and improving educational access for students in geographically isolated areas of the province.

During the Management Committee meeting held on March 9, 2026, at the Conference Building in Bulanao, the governor stressed that the selected schools were intentionally identified due to their remote locations, classroom shortages, and the urgent need for an improved learning environment.

“Ti inkabil tayo nga talaga nga beneficiaries ket dagiti adayo tapnu maka-avail da metlang piman. Ket dagitoy nga schools paylang garud ti priority for the 50 million allocation. Funded daytoyen, ket urayen tayo langen diay MOA nga rumwar ket dagitoy nga schools ti priority tayo paylang,” he said.

The identified schools include Guinaang Dao-angan Primary School in Balbalan; Balbalan Agricultural and Industrial School (Poswoy Extension); Balay Elementary School in Tinglayan; Bayowong Elementary School in Balbalan; and Utah Community School in Balbalan, each receiving an allocation of ₱6 million.

Other beneficiaries include Cadao Elementary School in Rizal; Laytok Primary School in Pinukpuk; Calbayan Elementary School in Pinukpuk; and Aguimitan Primary School in Pinukpuk, each with an allocation of ₱5 million.

The allocations are expected to support the construction, replacement, repair, and improvement of classrooms and school buildings, including the construction of two classrooms and a one-storey unit for each school.

Meanwhile, Edduba also proposed highlighting projects implemented by the provincial government, such as the Lumin-Awa School Building, as a demonstration of its commitment to serving far-flung communities across the province. The governor also urged officials to identify other schools that require assistance so they can be recommended for future funding allocations.

“Ket diay kunak, mangaramid kayo ti feature na diyay nga implemented by the province—one of which ket kasla kuma Lumin-Awa School Building, tapnu mangkitaan tayo lang ti diperensya which is implemented by the province—tapnu napintas ken tapnu adda met ti legacy tayo. Ket nu adda pay ammo yu nga schools nga talaga agkasapulan ket ibaga yo, ta isu ti sumaruno nga i-recommend tayo for another allocation,” he said.

Reaffirming its commitment to quality education, the provincial government, led by Governor Edduba, expressed optimism that the initiative—supported by Secretary Angara—will help address classroom shortages and provide safer, more conducive learning spaces for students in remote communities across Kalinga.
