Lubuagan, Kalinga – To empower individuals looking after their old and frail family members, DSWD-CAR provided a two-day training on Home Care Support Services for Senior Citizens in 4 barangays of the municipality on July 12 – 13, 2022 in Poblacion, Lubuagan.

Care for the elderly and the sick in the mountainous municipalities of Kalinga could be challenging especially that medicines and transport might not be readily available.

The Home Care Support Services for Senior Citizens is aimed at empowering family care givers by training them to promote harmonious family relationships as well as to provide care and protection to the aged and infirm.

The said program is community-based.

Brenda Consolacion, DSWD-CAR Social Technology Unit Head explained to participants from barangays Mabilong, Antonio Canao, Dangoy and Poblacion the necessity of the training for families with elderly or sick members, adding that knowing more enables them to do what is appropriate and what is right as they provide care.

“Ammu mi nga through your experience and panagbanbantay kadagiti se-senior citizens, ammu mi nga ad-addu iti ammu yu, experience ngarud. Ngem siguro daytoy iyeg mi tatta mangnayun or mangipalagip nu anya dagiay karbengan or nu anya dagiay dapat nga aramiden tayo kadagiti senior citizen tayo,” she conveyed.

She underscored that there is no other person who could provide better care to the sick and the aged people but their own family.
