Updated: Jul 4, 2022

Pasil LGU Pasil, Kalinga – To safeguard cultural heritage of the Municipality of Pasil, the municipality council sought for the establishment of School of Living Traditions.

Municipal Ordinance No. 2022-8 authored by the Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Culture and Arts, Councilor Ronnie Bawalan, aims to transmit endangered indigenous skills and techniques as valuable facets of cultural heritage to the young people.

The School of Living Traditions will serve as an avenue for living masters, and culture bearer specialists to impart skills and techniques of doing traditional arts or crafts to the youth from the same ethnolinguistic community.

The mode of teaching, according to the proponent, may be non-formal with practical demonstrations.

The culture specialist shall be paid with a monthly allowance for the services.

“The site may be the house of the living master, a community social hall, or a center constructed for the purpose,” reads the ordinance.

As part of the guidelines, a focal person shall be designated to handle the affairs of the School of Living Tradition to be supported by a Technical Working Group.

To keep the school running, local institutions such as tribal and community organizations, schools, local government units, church organizations, and others may be tapped for financial support.

The ordinance is among the agenda in the council’s regular session on Tuesday, June 07, 2022.
