Baguio City, Philippines – Residents of Santan Alley in Central Fairview were disturbed by a foul odor on Wednesday afternoon, which was later traced to a dead fetus abandoned in a parking lot in the area.

According to police, the foul smell was first noticed by a taxi driver, but he did not check its source. The odor lingered until a man repairing his vehicle traced where it was coming from and discovered a white T-shirt containing the dead fetus.

In an interview with the media, Barangay Kagawad Jeffrey Abance said they believe the fetus was initially intended to be buried, as evidenced by a shallow grave found near the parking lot. He added that those responsible may have abandoned the fetus after finding the soil too hard to dig.

The kagawad also noted that the individuals involved may not be residents of Central Fairview, as there have been no recent reports of pregnancy in the area.

The fetus, identified as male, is believed to have been premature. He was given a proper burial at a public cemetery on the same day.

In April 2024, a similar incident was recorded in Lower Fairview when a lifeless fetus was found abandoned inside a black eco-bag.
