Manila, Philippines – A Filipina OFW was tested positive of the Covid-19 UK variant upon arrival in Hongkong, according to the press release by the Department of health on January 6, 2020.

The patient with the UK variant is a 30 year old domestic helper from the province of Cagayan who left the region on December 17, 2020.

According to the narrative, the patient arrived in Manila on December 18, 2020 and underwent quarantine as such is a required protocol of their workplace. The following day, she was swab tested but yielded a negative result.

On December 22, the patient flew for Hong Kong and underwent quarantine. On January 2, she was swab tested and found positive for Covid-19 with the UK variant.

Due to this, there is an ongoing contact tracing by the Cagayan Valley Region and NCR with instruction to identify and quarantine close contacts and to collect samples for confirmatory testing.

The samples if they yield positive results will be subject to whole genome sequencing to find whether the virus is a UK variant.

Meantime, the Filipina OFW is in a stable condition and currently under isolation.
