Tabuk City, Kalinga – Four hospitals in the Cordillera region now offer improved services for patients living with kidney disease after the Cordillera Golfers Foundation, Incorporated (CGFI) donated hemodialysis machines.

Hemodialysis machines filter waste, toxins, and excess fluids from the blood of patients with kidney failure. Each unit typically costs between P1.2 million and over P2.2 million, depending on its specifications.

The machines were purchased using funds raised during CGFI’s Golf for a Cause tournament in 2025. They were turned over to Kalinga Provincial Hospital, Flora District Hospital in Apayao, Bontoc General Hospital in Mt. Province, and Dennis Molintas District Hospital in Benguet. Each hospital received one hemodialysis unit. The distribution took place at the office of the Department of Health-Cordillera in Baguio City on March 5, 2026.

Receiving the machines were the OIC chiefs/heads of the hospitals: Dr. Rey Aranca, Dr. Amy Liza Maruquin, Dr. Annie Claire B. Pekas, and Dr. Tricia Hazelle S. Panangwe.

In partnership with DOH-CAR, headed by Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan, the initiative aims to support Cordillera hospitals as the number of patients requiring dialysis continues to rise.

Under the leadership of Chairman Douglas Rufino and President Arnel Peil, CGFI is composed of Cordilleran golfers who organize tournaments to raise funds for social and medical projects in the region.

The group has a strong track record of helping others, particularly patients and the youth. As posted on its Facebook page, CGFI has previously distributed medical equipment and wheelchairs to Rural Health Units (RHUs) and supported education projects across several provinces in CAR.
