Cagayan, Philippines― Governor Manuel Mamba of Cagayan assured that he will rectify the wrongdoings in Cagayan especially those related to illegal logging even if it might be the cause of his death.

“Pasensyahan talaga sa mga nagsasagawa ng illegal logging, mga lumalabag sa environmental laws- minsan naiinis sila sa akin gaya ng mga Mayors, mga Chief of Police, kahit sino, wala akong pakiaalam. I want change in my province, even if it will cause my death, even if it will cause my demise,” he said.

The statement of Mamba was made during the courtesy call of the Cagayan Police Provincial Office.

Governor Mamba said that illegal logging is one of the problems in the province.

The effects of this illegal activity, according to the governor, is already felt by the people. He cited the series of widespread floods in the province as an instance.

In a report by the Cagayan Provincial Information Office, PENRO Cagayan Atty. Ismael Manaligod said that based on their data, the Cagayan Anti-Illegal Logging Task Force has been conducting regular operations when it comes to enforcing environmental laws such as arrest and confiscation of wooden contraband as well as filing relevant cases. Hence, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Cagayan's leadership in operations against illegal logging has resulted in the confiscation of large volumes of smuggled timber from several towns in Cagayan.

Meantime, the Cagayan Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and Department Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) lauded the strenuouscampaign and relentless operation of the police force in the province against illegal logging.
