ABULUG, Cagayan – A 32-year-old nurse employed at the Cagayan Valley Medical Center (CVMC) was arrested during a drug buy-bust operation conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 2 on June 17, prompting hospital management to reaffirm its strict zero-tolerance policy against any involvement in illegal drugs.

Despite belonging to a profession dedicated to promoting health and saving lives, the registered nurse from Barangay Libertad, Abulug, Cagayan now faces allegations related to illegal drugs following his arrest.

Authorities identified the suspect only by the alias "Noel." Operatives allegedly recovered several sachets containing nearly five grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of P34,000 during the operation.

According to an initial report from PDEA Region 2, the buy-bust operation was conducted at around 2:54 p.m. within the premises of CVMC in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP). The suspect was arrested after allegedly selling illegal drugs to an undercover operative.

The suspect is expected to face charges for violating Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

In a statement issued on June 18, CVMC described the incident as an isolated case that does not reflect the institution's values and standards. The hospital reiterated its strict zero-tolerance policy against illegal drugs and assured the public that its services remain safe and uninterrupted.

"Muling pinagtitibay ng institusyon ang mahigpit nitong 'zero tolerance policy' laban sa paggamit, pagbebenta, o anumang uri ng iligal na droga. Tinitiyak din ng pamunuan na ang operasyon at serbisyo ng ospital ay nananatiling ligtas, maayos, at tuloy-tuloy, at ang kaligtasan ng mga pasyente, kawani, at publiko ay patuloy na pangunahing prayoridad ng institusyon," the statement read.

As of this writing, authorities have yet to release additional details regarding the case as the investigation remains ongoing.
