Tabuk City, Kalinga – The supposed hosting of Kalinga Province this year of the Miss Earth pageant is cancelled, an official of the Provincial Local Government Unit of Kalinga relayed Monday, November 7.

Earlier, the province accepted the offer of the Miss Earth organizers to have the long gown competition of the Miss Earth 2022 pageant scheduled for November 18-19, 2022, at the Kalinga Sports Center.

The signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the provincial local government unit of Kalinga and Carousel Productions Incorporate was made in September.

Supposedly, around 20 to 25 beauties from various parts of the globe are to visit the province for 3 days as part of immersion activity in the province’s rich culture and tradition and visit local tourism destinations, benefitting the tourism industry of Kalinga.

With the impact of Typhoon Paeng, Provincial Tourism Officer Lorraine Ngao-i said the decision to back out in hosting the prestigious pageant was made.

According to Ngao-i, some of the heavily affected areas were supposed to be visited by the candidates. One of these includes the Awichon Village in Lubuagan.

“Due to the onslaught of ST Paeng ket grabe damages especially sa Upper kalinga as per report ng PDRRM Council, and in fact until today there are isolated barangays in Lubuagan and Pasil and it is inappropriate for the PLGU to conduct a pompous event in times of a calamity nga na-experience ti kakailyan,” Ngao-i explained.

Even if the province backed out this year, Ngao-i stated that the hosting of said event in the future is still possible.
