Tabuk City, Kalinga – Major General Romeo Brawner Jr. from Ifugao became the 65th Commanding General of the Philippine Army after President Rodrigo Duterte signed his appointment yesterday, December 7, 2021.

Brawner, who is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class of 1989, is a native of Kiangan, Ifugao, and was raised in Baguio City.

According to the Philippine Army, among Brawner’s accomplishments in the uniformed service is the 4th Infantry Division’s neutralization of high-ranking communist terrorist group personalities in Northern Mindanao and Caraga regions under his leadership.

Among the said high-ranking CTGs who were neutralized include Jorge Madlos alias Ka Oris, head of the New People's Army's National Operational Command.

The death of Ka Oris was said to have demoralized their group, which eventually resulted in a series of surrenders and confiscation of firearms in the country.

Also, under his leadership, there was a significant drop of CPP-NPA presence in their areas of responsibility.

Meantime, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Lieutenant General Andres Centino is confident that the Philippine Army is in good hands with Brawner.

"The Philippine Army congratulates Maj. Gen. Brawner on his appointment. As a competent and dedicated commander and leader, the Philippine Army is in good hands with Maj. Gen. Brawner at the helm," Centino stated.
