Baguio City, Philippines - Islay Erika Bomogao from the Cordillera took home two gold medals from the 2025 International Muaythai Association (IFMA) Senior World Championships in Antalya, Turkey.

The IFMA is the sole international governing body for Muay Thai sport which is recognized by the International Olympic Committee. It organizes various Muay Thai events, including the IFMA World Muaythai Championships, the highest level of world competition for Muay Thai.

This year, the i-Benguet athlete and no. 1 female IFMA fighter in 45kg elite, upheld her champion title with a gold-winning performance in the Wai Kru and Mae Muay divisions at the IFMA World Championships on May 26, 2025.

Wai Kru is a full medal sport— a pre-fight ritual preserving and enhancing Muaythai’s centuries-old traditions. Mae Mai, meantime, as defined by NOW Muay Thai, is often called "Master Techniques" or "Foundational Moves" which encompasses the essential strategies and principles of Muay Thai.

In her Facebook post, Islay shared her joy thanking her supporters, and looked ahead to the next goal.

“Once again, on top of the world and it feels amaaaazing! From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to thank everyone who helped me achieve this incredible feat. On to the next goal!,” the champ wrote.
