Ilagan City, Isabela - The country’s premier professional basketball league, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), will be having a tune-up match in Ilagan City, Isabela this week.

Local media source said the Local Government of Ilagan confirmed the hosting earlier this month after expressing its intention to bring a PBA game in the city, which the association granted.

The much-anticipated match featuring the Rain or Shine Elastopainters vs the Meralco Bolts will take place at the Ilagan Capital Arena.

The PBA game will serve as the highlight of the city’s month-long Diyandi Festival, blending sports and cultural celebration.

Known as the “Sports Tourism Hub of the North,” Ilagan has already hosted major sporting events such as the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) and Bakbakan sa Ilagan, and other national and international tournaments.

The upcoming PBA game marks its growing record as a destination for national and international sports competitions.

Based on gathered information, the PBA is founded in 1975 with its first game played that day at the Araneta Coliseum. It is Asia’s first professional basketball league, the second oldest continuously existing professional league in the world.

The league is recognized for nurturing some of the nation's greatest basketball legends. Among those Filipino basketball legends are Robert Jaworski, Allan Caidic, Ramon Fernandez, Alvin Patrimonio, Benjie Paraz, Atoy Co, Jojo Lastimosa, and others.

Their legacies have turned PBA into more than just a sports league but also into part of the Filipino culture.
