Tabuk City, Kalinga – Following the surge of Covid-19 cases in the province, Kalinga’s 26th Founding Anniversary and 5th Bodong Festival celebrations will not push through this February.

The decision came after the Provincial Management Committee unanimously voted for the celebration to be suspended.

“Gapu ditoy gamin ayan iti surge iti Covid positive tayo ... ken ibaw bawal da gamin iti mass gathering. Pero gapu ta kayat tayo nga icommemorate latta iti founding anniversary tayo, adda iti programs nga naaramid latta nu February 14,” said Executive Assistant to the Governor, Elizabeth Balais II.

She added that the committee in charge had their meeting today, January 19, on how the commemoration should be done and probably be attended by the respective city and municipal mayors and representatives from the different line agencies.

Meantime, just this January 18, Kalinga logged 108 new Covid-19 cases; 53 in Tabuk City; 8 in Rizal; 8 in Tanudan; 20 in Balbalan; 2 in Pinukpuk; 4 in Tinglayan; 5 in Lubuagan; and 8 in Pasil. Moreover, these cases are from the 664 swab specimens sent this January 15.

Additionally, Covid-19 related death increased to 3 with the Municipality of Balbalan’s first Covid-19 related mortality. The patient was suffering from hypertension and diabetes. He was first admitted at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital but was referred to Southern Isabela Medical Center due to worsening condition.

As of this writing, Kalinga has 340 Covid-19 active cases and cumulative confirmed cases of 986 with 647 recoveries.

It could be recalled that the Bodong Festival last year was also cancelled due to same threat brought by the Covid-19.
