Kalinga now under “NEW NORMAL” COVID-19 epidemic classification

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga is now classified under epidemic risk level “new normal” for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), this is a result of the Provincial Health Office’s (PHO) data indicating that municipalities in the province are now at minimal epidemic risk level.


Pinukpuk and Pasil municipalities were under “low risk” epidemic level from December 20-23, 2021, but shifted into “new normal” level from December 24, 2021, up to the present.


PHO on its COVID-19 report for January 1 to 3, 2022 noted that Kalinga has a negative 50 percent two-week growth rate, while the average daily attack rate per 100,000 populations is 0.06, or at a low level.

In December, the number of COVID-19 cases has decreased, and currently, the bed occupancy rate in the eight temporary treatment monitoring facilities in Kalinga infirmaries and hospitals is at a low level.


From December 1 to 29, 2021, PHO’s data for confirmed COVID-19 cases is 11, and at present, there are only two cases that are still active while all the others recovered.


Meantime, Kalinga as of January 2, 2022, has already fully vaccinated 68.6 percent of its target population, short of 1.4 percent to attaining its target herd immunity or 70 percent of the province’s population. 77.5% received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

While the province is under “new normal” epidemic risk level, PIATF Chairperson and Provincial Governor Engr. Ferdinand B. Tubban said that the public still has to observe minimum health standard protocols and recommended the continuation of vaccination activities in Kalinga until 100% of the total target population is already fully vaccinated.


In connection, Kalinga PLGU Public Information Officer Dionica Legasi reported that the governor will soon convene all the local chief executives in the province to discuss the safety measures needed to safeguard the province from the threat of the COVID-19 Omicron variant.
