Kalinga powerlifter snatched 2 bronze medals in 2022 ASEAN Para Games

Pinukpuk, Kalinga – A para-athlete from Kalinga has secured additional bronze medals for the Philippines in this year’s ASEAN Para Games in Indonesia.


The province’s pride, powerlifter Romeo Tayawa of Pinukpuk, Kalinga, represented the country in the Men's Powerlifting 54kg category on August 2, 2022.

Tayawa emerged victorious in the competition after winning two bronze medals in Best and Total Lift.


A day earlier, an Igorot powerlifter from Benguet, Denesia Esnara won two bronze medals in the 50kg Powerlifting women – total lift and best lift games.


As of August 3, the Philippines is in the 5th spot in the official medal, standing with an overall 34 medals.


This year’s ASEAN Para Games was participated by 11 countries with Indonesia leading the competition with 139 medals followed by Thailand with 103 and Vietnam with 59.


The competition is still ongoing.
