Tabuk City, Kalinga – Amid the alarming number of rabies cases recorded in the province, the Office of the Provincial Veterinary (PVET) has scheduled massive anti-rabies vaccination drives across Kalinga for the entire month of March.

The initiative forms part of the province’s observance of National Rabies Awareness Month, aimed at strengthening public awareness about the dangers of the rabies virus—one of the deadliest diseases known, as it is nearly 100 percent fatal once clinical symptoms appear.

In 2025, 41 out of 94 samples collected in Kalinga tested positive for rabies. Of these, 30 cases were recorded in Tabuk City, nine in Pinukpuk, and two in Balbalan.

The vaccination drives are scheduled in the following areas: Balantoy, Balbalan (March 4); Magsilay, Pasil (March 5); Balinciagao Sur and Norte, Pasil (March 5); Pugong and Malocsad, Pasil (March 6); Mallango, Tinglayan (March 11); Bugnay, Tinglayan (March 13); Cagaluan, Pasil (March 18); Guinaang and Amdalao, Pasil (March 19); Taga, Pinukpuk (March 24); Galdang, Pasil (March 26); and Bagtayan, Pasil (March 27).

Information and Education Campaigns (IEC) in several schools are also scheduled this March to educate the public about rabies transmission and prevention. A veterinary medical mission in Dangtalan, Pasil is set for March 20.

Dr. Karl Oyando of PVET urged pet owners to take advantage of the free vaccination program. He emphasized that March, being Rabies Awareness Month, is an ideal time to have dogs and cats vaccinated.

In addition, the PVET office is offering free veterinary services throughout March at the Department of Agriculture Compound in Block 3, Bulanao. Services include anti-rabies vaccination, free consultation and treatment, deworming, vitamin supplementation, and free spay and neuter for dogs and cats.
