Tabuk City, Kalinga―The Department of Agriculture (DA) through the Office of the Provincial Agricultural Services has already distributed PhP37.1 million cash assistance to small rice farmers in Kalinga since 2020.

Supervising Agriculturist Joe Casibang, through the Isangguni sa Ating Governador program aired over a radio station, informed that from the PhP37,145,000, over 7,429 farmer-beneficiaries have already received each their PhP5,000 assistance.

However, there are still 1,817 beneficiaries who are about to receive the cash assistance this year where a total amount of PhP9,085,000 was allotted for them.

He disclosed that distribution was a bit delayed due to typographical errors and duplications of name entered in the Department of Agriculture system.

Casibang said the cash assistance aims to help rice farmers with their struggles from the lockdowns and quarantines caused by the CoViD-19 pandemic.

“Daytoy a tulong wenno ayuda ti opisina ti Department of Agriculture in partnership with the local government units both iti province ken dagiti munisipyo ket tulong daytoy tapno maibsan dagiyay rigat dagiti pada tayo a mannalon ti pandemic ken kasta metten diyay permi a pinagbaba ti presyo ti pagay a source of livelihood ti farmers tayo,” he said.

The one-time financial assistance of P5,000 each is granted to rice farmers tilling farms with areas of 0.5 to 2 hectares under the DA’s Rice Farmer Financial Assistance (RFFA) program.
