Baguio City, Philippines - Five residential houses in Baguio City were hit by a landslide in the early hours of Friday, July 25, triggered by the continuous rains brought by now severe tropical storm “Emong.”
Reports say that around 6:08 a.m., mud and soil cascaded down a slope and partially buried a house in Outlook Drive, Baguio City, trapping two individuals inside. Fortunately, the victims survived the incident and were brought immediately to the hospital by the responding police and firemen for medical attention.
According to the city’s Public Information Office, three other houses in said area were also affected by the landslide. One was said to be completely covered by soil but was unoccupied at the time of the incident, while the residents of the two other houses were declared safe.

Meanwhile, in Purok 4, Lucnab, authorities are currently verifying information that an individual is trapped inside a house that was struck by a landslide. A search and rescue operation is underway to locate the victim.
The CLGU, under the leadership of Mayor Benjamin Magalong, is continuously monitoring landslide-prone areas in the city and has been advising residents to stay vigilant and evacuate early to avoid injuries or casualties.
Latest report from the DOST-PAGSA said Emong has now downgraded from a typhoon into a severe tropical storm and continues to weaken over the Cordillera Central and is about to exit the landmass of Luzon in the next hours.
The northern portion of Apayao is currently under tropical cyclone wind signal no. 3, the rest of Apayao and the northern portion of Abra is under signal no. 2 , and signal no. 1 in the rest of Abra and the northern portion of Benguet, Kalinga, Mountain Province, and Ifugao.
