Cagayan Valley – More than 500 households in remote communities across Cagayan are set to receive electricity this year through the P52-million Sitio Electrification Program (SEP) of Cagayan Electric Cooperative I, bringing long-awaited light, improved living conditions, and better opportunities to underserved areas in the province.

The SEP is a government initiative implemented by the National Electrification Administration that aims to provide electricity to remote and underserved communities nationwide. The program involves the installation of electric posts and power lines in far-flung areas to help improve education, livelihood, communication, and daily living for rural families.

According to CAGELCO I through the Philippine Information Agency – Cagayan, this year’s electrification projects will benefit households in the municipalities of Rizal, Solana, Enrile, and Baggao, including parts of Tuguegarao City.

With the P52-million allocation, the implementation of the projects is expected to be completed within 120 days.

In many isolated areas of Cagayan, the absence of electricity continues to make daily life difficult, with families still relying on kerosene lamps, candles, and improvised lighting at night. Limited power access has also long affected education, communication, small businesses, and overall community development.

To address these long-standing challenges, the cooperative, in coordination with national electrification efforts, continues to expand its Sitio Electrification Program to reach more remote communities.

Once energized, families are expected to benefit from safer and brighter homes, while students will have better conditions for studying at night. Small businesses may also operate more efficiently, and residents can gain easier access to information and essential services.
