Low vaccination rate among elders in Kalinga, seniors urged to get protected

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Provincial Health Office-Kalinga is now encouraging senior citizens, who are part of the priority groups, to submit themselves for inoculation as protection from the threat of the Covid-19 virus.


This is following the low vaccination rate of the elderly sector wherein only 26.13 percent of the target population or 5,949, out of the 22,764 listed elderlies were fully immunized. Around 4,291 have yet to receive their second dose.


Based on the record, Rizal reported the most number of vaccinated elderlies at 42.82 percent of its targeted populace, followed by Balbalan at 32.20 percent, Pasil at 29.85 percent, Pinukpuk at 27.76 percent, Tabuk City at 24.36 percent, Tanudan at 21 percent, Tinglayan at 20.05 percent and Lubuagan which is 10.74 percent.


With this number, PHO-Kalinga said that there is a need for senior citizens to submit themselves for vaccination as they are the ones who need it the most, given that they are the most vulnerable sector.


Senior citizens are then told to visit their Rural Health Units for master listing and get vaccinated once their schedules are set.


Those who are fully immunized are likewise given a reminder to continue adhering to minimum health standards even after being vaccinated. As this, according to Chinayon Badival of PHO-Kalinga, does not guarantee that they will not get the virus but only as added protection to fight against it.


“Regardless nu anya nga variant, continue adhering with health and safety protocols latta,” she added.

Ongoing Mobile vaccination to solve the problem


To solve the problem, the PHO personnel said that Rural Health Units are now doing means to enable the target populace, particularly the elders to get vaccinated.


“Adda ngay ti ongoing mobile vaccination tayo tatta, karkaru kattuy Tabuk even dagidiay dadduma nga municipalities, haanen nga idiay RHU mapanan da ta dagidiay taga RHU pay mismon mapan diay barbaranggay,” Badival said.


Aside from Tabuk, Badival mentioned that Balbalan and other municipalities are also doing the same means to vaccinate their constituents.


Vaccinated A1 and A3


As for other priority groups, A1’s vaccination rate is now at 73.55 percent while A3 or those with comorbidities is now at 118.96 percent, which means more than the target population has already received the vaccine.


A1 or health personnel group’s target population for the vaccination is 5,146, while A3 group’s target individual is 13, 574.
