Man dies in head-on collision while on his way to visit ailing child in CVMC

Iguig, Cagayan – A 21-year-old father who was about to visit his sick child in a medical facility in Tuguegarao died on Monday evening, December 11, after his motorcycle collided head-on with a tricycle.

 

The accident transpired along the national road in Gammad, Iguig, Cagayan.

 

On board the motorcycle was the casualty, Pearl Jovan Baculi, a resident of Pared Alcala.

 

He was then headed to the Cagayan Valley Medical Center to visit his 1-month-old baby, who was suffering from pneumonia when the accident happened.

 

The tricycle, in the meantime, was driven by a certain Wilfredo Banatao, 50, a resident of Iguig.

 

The two vehicles were then in opposite directions.

 

According to Banatao, he even tried to avoid Baculi's motorcycle, which he claimed was then speeding but was not able to do so, resulting in the accident.

 

As a result of the head-on collision, the tricycle driver and his passengers were thrown out of their vehicle.

 

His passengers who were hurt were named by police as Mark Jonas Mangalus, 19, Jonalyn Pagulayan, 19, Bryan Dumlao, 21, Althea Dalimag, 19, and Joyce Rumusud, 21. All are residents of Iguig but from different barangays.

 

The victim, meantime, was brought to CVMC but died while being treated.

 

The victim is survived by his wife, a 3-year-old child, and a one-month-old baby.
