Tabuk City, Kalinga – Achieving greater heights, a maritime cadet from Tabuk City graduated with flying colors from the United States Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) in New London, Connecticut last month.

Probationary Ensign John Rex Adong joined 262 cadets in wrapping up their journey at the USCGA, an elite institution providing education to future coast guard officers, during the USCGA’s 144th Commencement Exercises on May 21, 2025.

Adong did not simply just graduate from the academy, he was also named Magna Cum Laude in Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

The new graduate coast guard officer was given the chance to pursue his education at the USCGA through the Philippine Coast Guard’s International Cadetship Program which aims at supporting the career development and the capacity building programs of coast guards towards becoming efficient public servants.

Adong will be commissioned into the Coast Guard service as Ensign upon his return to the country.

The Philippine Coast Guard, meantime, commended Adong for his feat, saying, “Congratulations, P/ENS Gaviola! Your achievement brings pride, not only to your family, but to the entire PCG organization.”
