Updated: Feb 13, 2022

Baguio City, Philippines – The Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO-COR) still holds the title ‘The Home of the Most Disciplined Cops’ in the country.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong underscored this in his keynote message during the celebration of PRO-COR's 31st Anniversary at Masigasig Grandstand of Camp Major Bado Dangwa, La Trinidad, Benguet this February 7, 2022.

Magalong, through PTV Cordillera, highlighted that the discipline of the Cordilleran cops contributed to the significant decline of crime rate in the region. The crime rate, he said, went down to 200% for the past five years.

“And during this pandemic alone, talagang very significant ang pagbaba every year naga-average sila ng 40 percent, 30 percent very significant, ang ganda ng kanilang mga programa ngayon,” added the mayor.

Magalong likewise praised the initiative of the Cordillera police for not failing to send help to the community amid the pandemic.

Surrender of NPAs

Moreover, the mayor stressed the efforts done by said office in reducing the members of the communist rebel group.

During the said celebration, three members of the New People’s Army formally surrendered their weapons including shotgun, carbine, pistol, and others.

“Humina yung armadong pakikibaka at ang dahilan nito ay bukas na ang kamalayan ng ating mga kababayan sa mga pang gagantso at panloloko ng mga communist terrorist group na ito. At Nakita naman natin kung gaano ka agresibo ang ating gobyerno,” Police Captain Marnie Abellanida, the Public Information Officer said.

The regional police assured former rebels that they will receive assistance in accordance with the law, after undergoing profound validation and assessment.
