Balbalan, Kalinga – More development projects, including classrooms and farm-to-market roads, are expected to be implemented in Balbalan through the continuing initiatives and relentless efforts of the provincial government of Kalinga and the municipal government of Balbalan.

This was announced by Governor James Edduba during the Palanus Night of the Manchachatong Festival on March 23, as he took the opportunity to inform iBalbalans about upcoming projects expected to benefit local constituents.

Among these is the construction of school buildings in four remote schools in the municipality: Guinaang Dao-angan Primary School, Balbalan Agricultural and Industrial School (Poswoy Extension), Bayowong Elementary School, and Utah Community School.

According to the governor, each school is allotted P6 million from a P50 million fund sourced from the Department of Education. The budget was endorsed by the Kalinga Provincial Local Government Unit (PLGU) to Juan Edgardo Angara, requesting funding for the construction of new school buildings in geographically isolated areas in the province.

“Inpaayab ko iti DPWH with DepEd tattay agsapa after diay flag ceremony ket isu diay nagtutungtungan mi nga mapan dan tu i-validate dagitoy. And I even requested nga nu mabalin ket dagiay school buildings, to make it different kadagitoy naim-implement iti PLGU, ket we want to make it solar-ready ta nu addan tu iti capability iti munisipyo wenno province nga mang-solar kadagitoy school buildings tapnu later on haan tayon tu problema in case adda iti brownout,” the governor expressed.

More projects

Moreover, Edduba also shared that Carlito Galvez Jr., who visited Balbalan on February 23 for the inauguration of the Poswoy Bridge, committed to fund two additional school buildings—a welding room and a carpentry room—for the Balbalan Agro-Industrial High School.

The governor further said they are following up on another commitment from Galvez to provide funding for the continuation of the road from Poswoy to Buaya, after Mayor Almar Malannag and Vice Mayor Regina Munda Cruz raised the matter during his visit.

“So, they are asking now to prepare a program for that road ket hopefully in the coming years ken daytoy next year kuma ket adda kuma uray lang initial nga pondo iti maited iti OPAPRU,” Edduba added.

Further, the provincial governor said they are working to source more funding for additional projects to be implemented across the Province of Kalinga.
