Tabuk City, Kalinga – Commuters traveling the Tabuk–Tinglayan route now have a more comfortable option following the launch of modernized public utility vehicles (PUVs) on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

KALTRANSDECO, a transportation cooperative in Kalinga, unveiled two units of modern PUVs in front of Tabuk City Hall, formally introducing a new generation of public transport for the Tabuk–Tinglayan route.

In an interview with GURU Press Cordillera, KALTRANSDECO Chairperson Patricia Lungao said the new 25-seater PUVs are air-conditioned, equipped with CCTV cameras, and feature an automated fare system. She added that the cashless and contactless payment system will be implemented once the final fare matrix is issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)–Cordillera.

Lungao said operations for the two units will begin on Monday, April 27. The terminal in Tabuk is located at RBL in Bulanao, while the terminal in Tinglayan is in Poblacion.

“Diay maysa agapu Tinglayan, diay maysa agapu Tabuk, suta agsabat da [when traveling],” she explained, adding that there will be two daily trips in each direction.

As of now, the fare from Tabuk to Poblacion, Tinglayan is set at ₱250, while fares to Buscalan are expected to be higher.

Following the launch, KALTRANSDECO is also eyeing to introduce modernized PUVs for the Tabuk–Tanudan route. Lungao added that the cooperative also plans to replace older, non-air-conditioned vans operating on the Tabuk–Tuguegarao route with new units.

The initiative was commended and supported by both the city and provincial governments, as well as the Land Transportation Office–Kalinga.
