Tabuk City, Kalinga―Meat Vendors of Dagupan Public Market in Tabuk City opted to stop selling pork and wait for the decision of the Sanggunian Panlungsod about their second petition to increase the price of pork.

Earlier this week, the meat vendors were stopped selling with their unapproved price hike of pork from PhP240 to about PhP280 per kilo, which they said was due to the increase in the selling price of pigs from hog raisers.

Market Administrator William Owek narrated that upon the report of the price hike of pork among the meat vendors from last week, he called for a meeting on Monday, December 14, in which he explained that their decision to jack up the price is illegal and that they cannot continue unless they abide with the appropriate pricing.

“Kunak ket illegal diay ar aramiden da sunga haan nga mabalin nga itultuloy da until nga adda approval ti SP nga approbaran da diyay pinaglaklako da ti kasdiay nga amount,” he uttered.

He said that the vendors learned that their first petition was not granted because of they did not indicate by how much their increase shall be. They only mentioned flexible pricing. Nevertheless, a second petition has been submitted with the pricing explicitly mentioned.

According to Owek, the meat vendors agreed to temporarily stop selling their products until their second petition is approved by the Sanggunian Panlungsod.

“Sunga inpastop ko paylang suda nga aglako inggana sumurot da idiay dapat nga presyo. Nu aglako da sumurot da diay kasla nagnunumwan nga presyo , isu paylang, ta kaasi met ti tattao nga samsamantalaen da,” he remarked.

On the other hand, President of Dagupan Public Market Meat Section Nellie Sarol defended their decision saying that the price increase was based on the hike of live weight price of pork caused by the African Swine Fever (ASF) which led to shortage of pigs in the area.

“Itatta garud ket gapo iti sakit nga ASF diba aminen napanen, shortage nga talaga, ammo tayo met ken nu nakita u ti daduma nga lugar, ti karne da as of now ket 280-290 , ituy lang ayan tayo ti nababa,” Sarol stated.

She said their petition was already forwarded to the city, and they are just waiting for a schedule of a special session to tackle their request.

Sarol added that if they do not receive a call for a special session by Monday, December 21, regarding the matter, they have no choice but to resume selling pork products with the increased price of PhP260.

“Kapilitan nga irugi min tu lattan ti aglako nu Tuesday, diay presyo ah ket diay ibagbga mi nga PhP260 ti panaglako mi ti karne,” she said.
