Santiago City, Isabela - The Santiago City, Isabela Police Office (SCPO) denied a viral Facebook post claiming that a cop assigned at the station was asking for money from carnival (peryahan) operators in the city.

Based on the report of the XFM Santiago, who interviewed SCPO spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Saturnino Soriano, the issue was investigated and found to have no truth to it.

The post, which quickly gained traction on Facebook, was traced to a fake account under the name “Marcus Cuchon.”

According to the social media post, a supposed official from one of SCPO’s supporting units was allegedly demanding large sums of money from a perya operator, threatening to shut down their operations if payments were not made.

However, PLTCOL Soriano emphasized that all perya operations within the city are legal and have been granted proper permits by the local government.

The Santiago PNP is now monitoring the fake account, while warning the public to avoid spreading lies online.

The police station then assured the public that they continue to work hard to keep peace and order in the area.

Guru Press Cordillera tried to reach out to Santiago City Police Station for further information about the case, but they have no response as of this writing.
