Not your Ordinary Garden: 56-yr.-old man in Benguet caught watering Marijuana

Benguet, Philippines – A 56-year-old man was arrested after he was allegedly caught in the act of watering and drying marijuana plants in Benguet on Saturday, April 11, 2026.


The suspect, whose identity was withheld by the police, was tagged as a High-Value Individual (HVI) drug personality.


According to the Police Regional Office–Cordillera Administrative Region (PRO–CAR), joint operatives from the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency conducted the operation after catching the suspect in the act of watering suspected marijuana plants in Barangay Pappa, Sablan, Benguet. Authorities also reported that the suspect was seen drying the illegal plants at his plantation site.


The operation led to the confiscation of 53 fully grown marijuana plants, 22 marijuana seedlings, 7,600 grams of dried marijuana stalks with leaves and fruiting tops, and 305 grams of marijuana seeds. These were collectively estimated to be worth ₱930,980.


Apart from the illegal drugs, authorities also noticed a gun handle protruding from the suspect’s backpack, prompting them to inspect it. They recovered a caliber .45 pistol with a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition, along with three rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.


The suspect was taken into police custody in Sablan for proper documentation and the filing of appropriate charges.


Meanwhile, aside from the arrest of the suspected cultivator, anti-narcotics operatives in Benguet also uprooted and destroyed marijuana plants worth ₱2,561,200 during separate eradication operations in Badeo, Kibungan; Kayapa, Bakun; and Central, Kapangan.
