Tabuk City, Kalinga – A 25-year-old foreign student was subjected to inquest proceedings following a road crash that killed a 48-year-old woman in Benguet on May 1, 2026.

According to police reports, the suspect, a Sudanese national temporarily residing in Baguio City, was driving a van bound for La Union with six student passengers when the incident occurred.

Investigators, as cited by Mountain Beacon, said the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle along a curved section of Marcos Highway in Tuba when the van’s brakes allegedly malfunctioned, causing it to veer toward the victim.

The 48-year-old storekeeper was thrown into a roadside canal due to the impact of the collision, resulting in fatal injuries.

The suspect was taken into police custody and underwent inquest proceedings on May 2 for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.

From January to May 2026, Tuba police have recorded 28 road crash incidents in the municipality.
