For years, many of Tinglayan's finest products—from freshly harvested agricultural goods to handcrafted woven items and traditional souvenirs—were known mostly within the municipality.

Today, they have found a new showcase and a wider market through the opening of the OTOP Store Tinglayan Pasalubong Center, giving local farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs a stronger platform to share their products with the world.

Officially opened on June 15, 2026, at the Municipal Hall in Poblacion, the Pasalubong Center marks a significant step in promoting Tinglayan's rich culture, craftsmanship, and agricultural heritage. The project was made possible through the partnership between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Kalinga and the Municipal Local Government Unit of Tinglayan.

Inside the store, visitors can find a variety of locally produced goods, including agricultural products, traditional weaving crafts, native souvenirs such as bolos, and other handmade creations proudly made by iTinglayans. According to Municipal Administrator Atty. Mark Dave Bang-as, more products are expected to be displayed as local producers complete the processing and packaging requirements for their goods.

Beyond providing a convenient place for tourists and residents to purchase local products, the Pasalubong Center serves a bigger purpose: creating economic opportunities for the people behind the products. Every purchase directly supports local farmers who cultivate the crops, weavers who preserve indigenous artistry, and small business owners striving to grow their livelihoods.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Tinglayan Mayor Charles Abay, DTI-Kalinga representatives, municipal officials, and members of the Sangguniang Bayan signed a Memorandum of Agreement to strengthen collaboration in supporting local enterprises and expanding market opportunities for Tinglayan-made products.

Mayor Abay underscored the importance of patronizing local products, emphasizing that every purchase contributes to the growth of local businesses and the welfare of farming communities.

“Let's patronize and support our local products and entrepreneurs. Rest assured that the local government of Tinglayan, in partnership with DTI-Kalinga and other agencies, will continue working to create more opportunities for our local businessmen, businesswomen, and especially our farmers who produce these agricultural products,” he said.

As more consumers choose local products over imported alternatives, communities like Tinglayan stand to benefit. Supporting local goods not only keeps money circulating within the community but also helps preserve indigenous traditions, sustain livelihoods, and inspire future generations to continue the crafts and industries that define their heritage.
