Benguet, Philippines – With the newly procured brand new Isuzu Refrigerated Van granted to the Lengaon Indigenous Farmer's Credit Cooperative (LIFCC), safe and continuous delivery of highland vegetables and fruits coming from Bauko, Mt. Province, Benguet and Baguio City is easier.

The cooperative works for delivery of agricultural produce from the said areas and delivering them to places needing more supply of vegetables.

Joaquin Geronimo Depalog Jr., Manager of LIFCC, said the vehicle was bought through the P2,500,000 financial grant from the Department of Agriculture’s Enhanced KADIWA Program. The cooperative also gave P15,000 as counterpart.

Deapalog Jr. said the hauling and delivery activities of the cooperative faced difficulties with the travel restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, affecting their trading activities and the quality of products being delivered due to transport delays.

The grant, however, has given them opportunity to avoid delays of transporting products to their clients.

“We are blessed because of the grant from the Department. Two thousand (2,000) farmer-members will now benefit from the intervention and we can now maintain high-quality vegetables to increase our income,” said Depalog in a report by DA-Cordillera.

Award received by Lengaon Indigenous Farmer's Credit Cooperative

On June 30, the LIFCC was given a Certificate of Appreciation for their outstanding and unending support to the KADIWA programs particularly in providing safe, affordable, and fresh vegetables to the consumers even during the pandemic.

The cooperative is one among the 26 Farmers and Fisherfolks’ Cooperatives and Associations (FCAs) in the region identified as beneficiaries of the program.

Those qualified to avail of the program are FCAs which assembles, consolidates or distribute food commodities and those prioritized are FCAs/CBOs which are already participating in Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita Program.

DA CAR reports that LIFCC passed the qualifications based on their on-going consolidation activity, good financial performance as observed through its audited financial statements for the past three years, and for having complied all the requirements of the Enhanced Kadiwa Financial Grants Program.
