Pinukpuk LGU evacuates 244 individuals

Pinukpuk, Kalinga―Local Government Unit (LGU) of Pinukpuk evacuated 244 individuals from Sitio Pong-ad, Barangay Taga as a precautionary measure due to continuous heavy downpour of rain brought by Typhoon ‘Ulysses’ all over the province.


Said area is prone to landslide where Alert Level 2 has been raised based on assessment of the Early Warning Device (EDS) installed in the sitio.


Pinukpuk Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) Officer Rose Marie Ambong said in an interview that the sitio was under alert level 2 which highly recommends immediate evacuation.


Thus, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and Provincial DRMMC in coordination with the Barangay DRRMC affected families were evacuated at Pinukpuk Vocational School (PVS) as precautionary measure.


“Actually kanayun da dagitoy nga maevacuate uray awan ti typhoon kasi diay heavy rain ken EDS information nga aggap gapo iti central office ken gapo ta continuous ti tudo, nagpigsa ti danum nga aggapo idiay bantay, daytoy nga purok nga ada idiay baba ti bantay diay mismo nga pag ayusan diay mass flow ngem haan da ngay nga makita nu anya ti force na kasi awan met ti ag erode nga open,” she explained.


With this, 68 families are currently inside the evacuation center with 242 individuals, and 1 family with 2 individuals evacuated to their relative. LGU then provided food assistance amounting to P76,764 and Barangay LGU amounting to P10,100.


Meantime, she advised travelers to take precautions as the Wagud to Aciga road is one lane due to landslide and Taga going to Balbalan is also one lane caused by rockslide in the Sitio Abbigoy, Taga.


As per assessment by the 23 barangay captains today, there were no reported untoward incidents, PNP personnel and other agencies in the municipality.
