Pres.Marcos appoints former NCIP-Kalinga Chief as Regional Director

TABUK CITY, Kalinga – Former National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Kalinga Provincial Director Atty. Catherine Gayagay-Apaling has officially assumed a bigger role in advancing and protecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples (IPs) after being sworn in as Regional Director of NCIP Region 2.


Apaling was recently appointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as NCIP Regional Director (Director IV) for the Cagayan Valley Region.


With her new designation, she will lead NCIP Region 2 in carrying out its mandate of protecting, promoting, and preserving the rights, welfare, and cultural heritage of Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples across the region.


Her appointment was warmly welcomed by colleagues, friends, and supporters, including members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) – Kalinga Chapter. In a Facebook post, the organization congratulated Apaling on her "well-deserved" promotion.


"Your dedication to the legal profession, unwavering commitment to public service, and inspiring leadership are truly worthy of recognition. May you continue to lead with integrity, wisdom, compassion, and excellence in the service of the people," the group stated.


Apaling's alma mater, Saint Louis University School of Law, likewise commended her achievement and recognized her continued commitment to public service and the advancement of Indigenous Peoples' rights.


Her appointment marks another milestone for Kalinga, with one of its own now leading the implementation of programs and policies for Indigenous Peoples throughout the Cagayan Valley region.
