Tinglayan, Kalinga – Relief aid has finally reached Barangay Buscalan through the collective efforts of government personnel and volunteers who carried the goods and crossed the temporary bamboo footbridge installed in Bugnay following the collapse of the Makilo Bridge.

Since Super Typhoon Uwan, the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) led by Mayor Charles Abay has been distributing relief assistance to all barangays in the municipality. However, the delivery of goods to Buscalan was delayed as they needed to wait for the road leading to the village to be cleared and reopened after it was blocked by landslides and debris triggered by the typhoon.

According to Municipal Administrator Atty. Mark Dave Bang-as, the distribution was further delayed after the Makilo Bridge in Bugnay sustained damage and eventually collapsed on December 1.

With the construction of the temporary bamboo footbridge, the MLGU, together with national line agencies such as the DSWD, BFP, BJMP, and volunteers, was able to bring the goods to Buscalan by manually carrying the boxes and crossing the footbridge.

“Dagitoy responders and volunteers tayo ket nagtulong-tulong da ken nagbayanihan, karkaru idiay banda ti Makilo Bridge, tapno maawit ken maiyapan dagitoy relief goods kadagiti kakailyan tayo idiay Buscalan, uray pay no kasdiay nga napitak. Isu, agpasalamat tayo kadagitoy personnel tayo ken dagitoy volunteers nga nangibagkat kadagitoy relief goods,” Abay expressed.
