Updated: Oct 13, 2022

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A significant increase in robbery cases was documented in Tabuk City for the first three months this year.

Data from the Tabuk City Police Station revealed that there were 10 cases of robbery recorded from January to March 2022. This is 8 cases higher compared to the same period in 2021.

In an interview with PLTCOL Dinulong Tombali, he mentioned that these robbery cases mostly happened at business establishments, but there was also a reported case involving a school in the city.

Tombali said that among the factors that contributed to the increase in incidents in Tabuk is the more relaxed Covid-19 restriction in the city since Kalinga was placed on Alert Level I.

“We have seen the spike iti robbery incidents tayo especially the first quarter… We attribute it diay panang-ease tayo or pananglukay tayo [iti restrictions]. Basically, people can go out and roam around during the night or day,” he explained.

With the incidents, Tombali advises the public to remain vigilant. On incidents were perpetrators held them at gunpoint, the Chief of Police stated, it is better to let them take their belongings.

“Nu mapan tayo iti kasdiay nga incidente nga … natutukan da, anya ngay garud, ited dan dagiay belongings. Why gamble with your life. Ngem nevertheless … maki-cooperate da idiay investigation, i-report da for us to do something idiay nga incidente nga dayta,” he said, adding that reporting the incident immediately will allow the police to identify, arrest, and file cases against the perpetrators.

Just this April 13, a business establishment in Dagupan Weste was robbed. Police who were on patrol past 12 midnight were able to catch one of the burglars. Three days later, a staff of Guru Press was held at gunpoint by two unidentified riders in Barangay Ipil where they took her motorcycle and belongings.
