Santa Marcela opens Agro-Industrial Fair; local farmers’ produce sold

Santa Marcela, Apayao - The local government Unit of Santa Marcela on June 15 formally opened its Agro-Industrial fair, showcasing a wide range of products from local business owners and farmers’ agricultural produce across the thirteen (13) barangays in town, displayed for sale at the clustered agro-fair booths.

 

Said Agro-industrial fair runs until June 17.

 

The exhibit is part of the grand opening of the municipality’s three-day festivities this year, the 58th Founding Anniversary and 21st Balangkoy Festival serving as primary means to boost income generation of local entrepreneurs.

 

There was a variety of local raw and processed products, including fruits, native delicacies, root crops, and ornamental plants from the exhibitors' respective barangays, readily available for buyers to purchase at lower prices. Some of these displayed food items and local produce include corn, coconut, buko, eggplant, string beans, banana, okra, and many more. There was also furniture like tables, chairs, and wooden kitchen utensils.

 

Mayor Evelyn B. Martinez, during her message, emphasized the need to support the agro-industrial fair initiatives, underlining that the launch will greatly promote and help farmers and business owners expand their markets and generate more income.

She encouraged the buyers and visitors to buy from the locally produced items displayed to motivate local businesspeople to innovate and continue the development of their ventures. 

 

The opening of the ceremonial cutting was led by Mayor Martinez along with OIC-Chief AMAD DA-RFO CAR Jocelyn W. Beray, DTI-Apayao representatives, Provincial office of Agricultural Services (POAS) led by Prudencio Bosing, Municipal Agriculture Office led by Franklin Abad, indicating the official commencement of the fair trade.

 

Part of the agro-industrial fair was the turnover of the Kadiwa truck worth P2.1M funded under the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program through the Department of Agriculture (DA) and with the LGU’s 20 percent counterpart worth P500,000.
