Swimming on Christmas Day turns tragic

Benguet, Philippines — A supposedly fun swimming time on Christmas day turns tragic with the drowning of a 17-year-old boy. His body was found lifeless at a river in Sitio Banao, Barangay Ambuklao, Bokod on the same day, December 25, 2020.


According to Bureau of Fire Protection in Bokod, Benguet, the victim with his cousins decided to go for a swim at the river to enjoy the fine weather. Unfortunately, the boy got caught by the river currents taking him.


The search and retrieval operation was activated upon receiving an alarm at around 3:00 in the afternoon with the joint forces of BFP, Philippine National Police – Bokod, Barangay officials, and the community.

The body of the victim was successfully found after two hours of the search and retrieval operation.


The victim is a resident of Barangay Ambiong, La Trinidad, Benguet.
