Tinglayan holds fire drill to ensure preparedness, safety

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Municipal frontline personnel of Tinglayan held a fire drill demonstration at the municipal police station building on Thursday, February 17, 2022, to ensure preparedness and safety for real-life emergencies.


Tinglayan Information Office, in a press release, said the Municipal Police Station (MPS) in partnership with the Bureau of Fire Protection-Tinglayan and Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (MDRRMC) collaborated to rub the event.

Captain Luis Bulao Jr., Acting Chief of Police, explained that quarterly fire drill helps refresh knowledge and train personnel with procedures in handling unexpected disasters such as fire.


"Fire drills serves as refresher to maintain our awareness in dealing with fire disasters. Even if your personnel are well trained, sometimes we forget the basic knowledge. That's why drills are important to refresh our knowledge and maintain our awareness," Bulao said.


During the demonstration of the fire drill, personnel were reminded to prioritize saving lives and that securing important documents to be next.

Properties or equipment considered a fire hazard, such as electric gadgets, should be unplugged to avoid further damage.


Personnel were also briefed on first aid and earthquake preparedness.


According to Bulao, the role of the PNP is not only limited to peace and order, and law enforcement, but to the overall safety of the public, even from natural or man-made disasters.


The MPS along with BFP Tinglayan and MDRRMC said they are eying a municipal-wide fire drill in April to increase awareness in the municipality.
