Tabuk City, Kalinga — Provincial Governor James S. Edduba, through Provincial Administrator Teddy Gullay, highlighted the resilience of the province during the Christmas Lighting Ceremony at Capitol Park, Bulanao, on December 9, 2025, dubbed “Pailaw sa Kapitolyo.”

The lighting ceremony drew hundreds of residents—families, friends, co-workers, and couples—and featured various fun activities, including performances from the LUMIN-AWA band, dancing, and games.

This year’s “Pailaw sa Kapitolyo” was dedicated to Kalinga’s resiliency amid the many challenges it faced. After the messages and the countdown, Capitol Park lit up with vibrant lights and holiday decorations.

In his message delivered by the provincial administrator, Governor Edduba emphasized that the ceremony was more than just switching on Christmas lights—it was a symbol of unity as one community despite the challenges the province faced this year.

“As a province, we have endured many trials. Among them is the devastation brought by the recent Super Typhoon Uwan, which destroyed homes, livelihoods, and even claimed lives. Yet in the midst of these challenges, we want our people to continue feeling the joy and excitement of Christmas… tonight’s ceremony is more than switching of the Christmas lights; it is a symbol of our unity as one community,” Edduba said.

Just last month, the Province of Kalinga was battered by Super Typhoon Uwan, leaving an estimated ₱1.28 billion worth of damage. The typhoon also isolated several villages and destroyed roads, infrastructure, and government facilities.

Edduba reminded the public to always carry the true meaning of Christmas by fostering peace, compassion, and unity.

“Let us carry the true meaning of Christmas not only today but every moment of our lives. May the spirit of this season inspire us to come together in faith, hope, and love,” he added.

Those who attended the “Pailaw sa Kapitolyo” expressed excitement and joy as they enjoyed the lights and displays, taking photos and videos with their families and companions.

“Kahit ganito kasimple, ang ganda… ang saya. We love it,” said one student at the event.

“Mayat daytoy nga papanan kasi makarelax kami met kadagiti ubbing. Karkaro dagitoy naduma-duma nga decorations. Agyaman kami kadagiti nag-organize,” said one of the parents.
