Woman in Cagayan drowned in early morning flood

Cagayan, Philippines – A 33-year-old woman drowned during the height of Typhoon ‘Maring’ in Cagayan, this is the second casualty recorded in the province.


The victim was identified as a certain Sheryl Guim, single, and a resident of Barangay Ajat, Iguig.


According to Cagayan Provincial Information Office, a report from the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Iguig stated that the victim drowned when their area was submerged in flood around 5:36 in the morning today, October 12.

Rescuers were said to be able to rush her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she was declared dead.


This unfortunate incident is the second casualty of the typhoon in Cagayan. It could be recalled that the first one was the 27-year-old security guard who was also drowned while conducting inspection the early morning of October 10 at the Port in Claveria.


As of 11:00 AM October 12, there are a total of 959 families or 3,443 individuals who were evacuated from their houses due to the typhoon. Additionally, 13 municipalities were reported to be flooded.
