NGCP prepares for the aftermath of Tropical Storm “Maring”

Cagayan Valley, Philippines - The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) in a press release disclosed that they had been preparing for the possible aftermath of the recent typhoon “Maring” with the international name “Kompasu” that threatened the Northern Luzon.


As prescribed by NGCP’s Integrated Disaster Action Plan (IDAP), the implementation of necessary preparations and precautions to minimize the impact of Tropical Storm Maring on transmission operations and facilities has been carried out.


Part of the plan includes ensuring the reliability of communications equipment, availability of hardware materials and supplies necessary for the repair of damage to facilities, as well as the positioning of line crews in strategic areas to facilitate immediate restoration work.


The power system operator and transmission service provider added that other procedures are also being implemented to ensure the readiness of all power transmission facilities expected to be affected by the passage of the weather disturbance.


Meantime, NGCP Regional Information and Communications Officer Malou Refuerzo, asked for the cooperation of the public to report any suspicious activities or any concerns that need attention, especially concerning electric lines that may cause untoward incidents and/or power outages.

She further informed that affected transmission lines in parts of Cagayan at 6:07 PM, on Monday during the onslaught of the typhoon has been fully restored today, October 12, 2021.

As of this report, only Sta. Teresita,-CEZA-Tangatan is still isolated. However, she assured of the NGCP’s exerted effort to re-energize lines despite the weather condition to fully restore power transmission service in the affected area.


“Line patrol at pag-repair ng mga linemen natin ay ongoing hanggang ngayon. The estimated time of restoration is yet to be determined,” she said.


Meanwhile, no maintenance or repair is needed for the transmission lines for Kalinga, Ifugao, Quirino and Nueva Vizcaya.
