TANUDAN, Kalinga — Tanudan Vice Mayor Antonio Basungit Jr. emphasized that the youth are not merely the “hope” or future of the country, but are also active participants in governance today, with their ideas and involvement playing an important role in building a more progressive Tanudan.

Basungit delivered the message during the Linggo ng Kabataan 2026 celebration in Banagao, Poblacion, on August 22. He welcomed fun run participants from different parts of the province and commended the Sangguniang Kabataan Tanudan and other Tanudan LGU personnel for organizing the activity.

In his message, the vice mayor acknowledged that young people are often described as the nation’s builders and the hope of the country. However, he stressed that their role extends beyond becoming future leaders, as they already have an important part to play in governance today.

“Let us not forget nga kunkuna tayo nga kanayon nga dagitoy kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan or our future leaders, they are not only that, but they are active participants of governance tatta,” he said.

Basungit stressed that good governance flourishes when young people actively participate in community activities and contribute their creativity and fresh ideas to discussions and decision-making.

He added that sustaining good governance in Tanudan is not solely the responsibility of elected officials, but a shared responsibility among the local government and its constituents, including the youth.

“Kasi haan lang met nga responsibility mi nga elected official iti governance ditoy ili tayo, but it is also the responsibility of the youth, kasi good governance succeeds or prospers nu adda active participation iti youth,” he stressed.

The vice mayor encouraged Tanudan’s younger generation to continue initiating activities and actively participating in government programs and initiatives.

He also assured the youth of the continued support of the Tanudan Municipal Local Government Unit, saying that the LGU’s goal is to help create a brighter future for the municipality’s young people.

For Basungit, empowering the youth means giving them not only a place in the future of Tanudan but also a voice and role in shaping the community today.
