Marijuana, 8 live 9mm rounds found in bag; 20-yr.-old student at private school in Tuguegarao nabbed

TUGUEGARAO CITY — A routine school bag inspection led to the arrest of a 20-year-old college student after marijuana and eight live 9mm ammunition were allegedly found in his backpack at a private school in Tuguegarao City on August 24, 2026.


The student, identified as alias “Mar,” a resident of Barangay Ngarag, Cabagan, Isabela, was undergoing a routine security inspection at the school’s pedestrian entrance along Balzain Highway in Barangay Centro 12 when the prohibited items were discovered.


The inspection was conducted by a female security officer at around 11:56 a.m.


Authorities reportedly recovered two pieces of marijuana weighing 1.78 grams, with an estimated value of ₱213, from the student’s backpack.


Also found inside the bag were a glass tube containing marijuana residue and eight live rounds of 9mm ammunition.


Bag check leads to arrest


The discovery resulted in the student’s arrest and subsequent turnover to the Tuguegarao City Police Station, where he remains under police custody.


The confiscated items are set to be turned over to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Regional Office 2 (PDEA RO2) for proper handling and examination.


The student is facing charges under Sections 11 and 12 of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, in connection with the alleged possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.


He is also facing a charge under Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition, for the alleged possession of the eight live 9mm rounds.

The case stemmed from the prohibited items discovered during the school’s routine security inspection.


The student remains under police custody as authorities process the appropriate charges and conduct further investigation into the source and intended use of the ammunition and suspected illegal drugs.
