Woman with mental disorder raped after being lured to a rice field

Cagayan, Philippines – A 21-year-old with mental disorder was sexually assaulted after she was lured to go to a rice field in Pamplona, Cagayan this August 1.

According to Cagayan Police Provincial Office, the suspect aka ‘Rommel’, 30, married, and resident of Sta. Marcela, Apayao, enticed the victim aka ‘Angela' of Pamplona to go to the rice field of her guardian in Barangay Centro, Pamplona.

The investigation further revealed that when the victim arrived, only the suspect was in the area. He then invited Angela to the place where he was staying and physically abused her.

Angela later told her guardian about the incident, who accompanied her to the Pamplona police at around 3:30 PM on August 2. The report prompted the operatives to conduct a hot pursuit operation that resulted in the arrest of Rommel.

Meantime, the victim was referred to the Rural Health Unit for medical examination while the suspect is under the custody of the police.

Rape is the highest index crime committed in the Cagayan Valley region, with 59 cases reported from January to June 2021.
