Baguio City, Philippines – Mayor Benjamin Magalong, as reported by PIO Baguio on Thursday, December 3 said that the city government is now working on additional control systems to ensure strict observance of health and safety protocols during events.

The city has received criticisms from the public on the incidence of violations of health protocols during the opening of Christmas in Baguio celebration and the reopening of the night market in Harrisson road on December 1.

Magalong in a speech during the opening of the city's month-long Christmas celebration said "Most probably tomorrow, some people will be hitting us because one way or the other, some of us failed to observe social distancing during this event.”

He was also quoted saying, “"Kung meron pong may kasalanan, ako po ang inyong ituro. Kasalanan po ng inyong mayor, kaya wag po kayong mabahala.”

In the report, the mayor acknowledged that lapses in crowd control transpired during those events. He then ordered the suspension of the operation of the night market on December 2 because of this.

“Right now, we will make sure that there are more systems in place to avoid a repeat of the incident,” Magalong said.

As for City Tourism Operations Officer Aloysius Mapalo, he gave a word that they will do better next time in events that the city will organize.

Market superintendent Fernando Ragma Jr. on his part told that,“We failed to forecast the spill-over of the Christmas in Baguio attendees and we failed to anticipate the excitement of the locals to go out of their homes from months of being told to stay home.
